27 June, Sunday:
Mommy celebrates her birthday on 28th June, which falls on a Mon, so we are celebrating one day ahead on Sunday instead.
Daddy and mommy decided to bring Chloe to Equinox, located 70 storeys above ground, with a splendid view of the cityscape.

1-2 July Thurs-Fri:

Chloe had a fever. A very high fever in fact, that we gotta bring her to KK Hospital at 2-3am in the morning on Thurs. The nurse gave her some medication and wanted to do a urine test. After a few testy hours of waiting for the urine, we finally got enough of it for a urine test. Good that was that there was no other infection. As it was a viral fever, it did not subside like in previous cases, but was constantly up and down. Thank goodness by Friday her temp finally went down and stayed down as well...

4 July, Sunday

Ah-gong went back to his workplace for some errands, when he came back, he had a surprise for Chloe - a tricycle he borrowed from the workplace. Naturally, since she hadn't ridden on one before, Chloe was very curious and eager to try riding on it...

Finally, a trip to East Coast Park.

All this while, for a long time now, we had wanted to bring Chloe to East Coast Park, to see the wide expanse of the sea, to feel the sea breeze wind and experience the vibe and energy of the people enjoying theirselves at the beach.

Alas, it took us till today, about 3 weeks shy of Chloe's 2nd birthday for her to see the beach for the first time. What can I say? There's always too much work to do, too many urgent things to tend to....

No matter, at least Daddy and Mommy made good on our plans to bring Chloe to the beach, tho frankly she was quite tentative and reluctant to come down and walk on the sand, or get too close to the waves. Understandable since she had never seen such a sight before. Maybe a few trips will do the trip, and here's hoping we dun need another 2 years to do our next trip.

Chloe's weekend playgroup sesson

In addition to the daily playschool that Chloe is attending, Mommy found out about this playgroup located at Kiliney Road that offers one-and a half hour sessions on weekends on singing, dancing, story-telling, and of course, play. We were concerned that the daily playgroup session wasn't very structured and that the teacher didn't seemed to be very competent or equipped to be a toddler teacher, never mind her claims to be a retired secondary school teacher and all. We decided to enroll her for this other weekend playgroup for 1 term and see how it goes.

Now there is a different theme each week, based on the story being told at the start of each session. With that the toys and games designed in the playroom would be different. The class size is kept to about 10 toddlers, with the parent by their side all the time also participating in the session. There would be around 4-5 teachers to tend to each session, compared to just 1 teacher and a helper in the daily sessions that Chloe is going to. Needless to say, all these added features would cost more.

One term has come and gone, and things have improved at the daily playgroup. A new teacher had replaced the previous one, and this teacher seemed more competent, with more organised activities for the kids. With that, we decided not to enroll for another term at the weekend playgroup. Studying/playing from Monday to Friday seemed quite sufficient for now.

Chloe's first day at playschool

The start of the new year - and also the start of school for Chloe, playschool that is. We figure that since the eventual plan is to bring Chloe to a full-time childcare centre in the future, a 2-hour daily playgroup will be a starting point for her to get used to interacting with other children and adults other than Daddy, Mommy, Ah Gong and Ah Ma. Chloe can learn to develop her independcnce and confidence, and at the same pick up some skills in her ABCs, singing/dancing and drawing/colouring.

We had wanted to enrol her for the Apple Tree class just a block away, from us but alas they are only accepting toddlers born in 2007 - Chloe is still too young for them. The alternative was Startots, located at a block about 10-15 minutes away. Not really that near, but the only choice for now till Apple Tree opens up its enrollment for 2008 babies.

Another option on our minds: a weekend playgroup session at Weecare, another toddler centre located at Killiney Road. Will be going there over the weekend to try out and see.

Speaking of uncles and aunties, Auntie Leeling, along with Zayden, Auntie Jasmine and Uncle Kenny dropped by to celebrate the big day with us, and brought some lovely gifts for Chloe. With 2 active babies around, all that needs to be done is for someone to grab the cam and start snapping...

Well technically Chloe's birthday is 25 April 2009. But if we follow the lunar calendar, today is considered her birthday too. Since we are all gonna go over to tai-ma's place anyway, we figure, why not celebrate it early today, with more people as well...

Almost a year now.... some updates

It's been a while since we did a progress report for Chloe. So what has happened since our last update.

1) A change of location...

... for Chloe's baby cot. Since mid-February, we have moved Chloe's cot into our room.... Ah-ma just had a cataract op and doctor's orders was for her to refrain from bending down or carrying heavy objects, 10kg babies included. To help out, Daddy, Mommy and Ah-gong took turns clearing leave to help out at home with chores and to take care of Chloe. Daddy and Mommy also decided that Chloe's days of sleeping in the living room should als be over. In the begining, it was intended for Chloe's cot to be placed outside so ah-ma can help to take care of her in the night, tending to her early morning feeds. With the relocation, Daddy and Mommy now took over the duties of coaxing her to bed every night and preparing her early morning feed.

Initially, the transition wasn't entirely easy for her or for Daddy and Mommy. Chloe has been used to sleeping on Ah-ma's bed most times at night, often late at 10 plus. Now we have to get her to sleep earlier, and on a different bed as well. Funnily, we are now sleping earlier as well; when Chloe sleeps, so do we. Well we need to. These days,we wake up earlier to feed her at 5plus. Since we can't get back to any reasonable length of sleep, we might as well just bath, dress up and go to work early... this saves us from the ERP charges and we get to start the day early.

And of course, having Chloe sleep with us also gives us more bonding time. Where she would cry in the past if we tried to make her lie down on our bed, now she is quite ok to hang around with daddy and mommy, even sleeping the whole night with us on our bed on a number of ocassions.

2) The baby who doesn't like milk

Since probably her 4th to 5th month, Chloe has refused to drink milk from the bottle while awake. We resorted to feeding her milk when she was asleep. Later on, we even tried spoon-feeding when there were times when she woke up halfway thru the feed and absolutely refused to cooperate. Lately, it has gotten more difficult to feed her either way. She would squirm and wiggle her way out of mommy/ah-ma's arms when we tried to feed her while she's asleep. Spoon feeding is no better as she would cry the minute she ses us with milk bottle kept warm in a cup of hot water. I think she is absolutely teriffied of the metal spoon we used to feed her milk with.

Vexed and concerned over her phobia of drinking milk, we sought advice, going all the way to Jurong East to visit a TCM phyisian who would massage her and prepared some powdered medication for her to take. This seemed to have worked for now as Chloe had been more cooperative during the milk sessions. A marked difference from the time when 3-4 of us are all needed to spoon-feed the milk/hold her down on the rocking chair/perform tricks to keep her engaged/cajole her to drink. Here's hoping that the improvement continues.

I dunno if this is a result of her teething issues. Chloe has 7 teeth now, and it might be possible that the teething pain is causing her to dislike drinking, tho strangely she is ok with her solid food. One thing for sure, she likes to bite at things these days, like her clothes, our clothes, any hanky, even her own socks... oh we gotta wipe the floor more often too... her dripping saliva is all over the floor as well.

Still all in all, Chloe's doing allright. She is not drinking as much as we would have wanted, and she is still not interested to learn to crawl - she can walk if assisted tho - and she is developing a bit of a temper as well. But her weight/height are above average still, and she is now more at ease going to tai-ma's house, becoming less clingy and allowing others to carry her... Talking about carrying, she is just super fond of being carried, and when she wants to be carried, she will pat the nearest one of us to get our attention and raised her arms, ready to be carried.

Chloe's Progress Report

Chloe is now 7-and-a-half months old now. Thought of doing a recap of her little progress thus far.

She is now quite fond of her walker, as she continues to discover the marvels of movement. In addition to moving backwards, she has started to learn to move sideways. Well she still hasn't mastered how to move forward, but she is getting there.

Basically Chloe still isn't very fond of eating. She still has to be asleep first before we feed her. milk. We started feeding her Heinz baby rice cereal a few months back. On a good day, she can finish it off quite quickly. On a bad day though, she will just keep the cereal in her mouth and refuse to swallow it. Sometimes, she will just regurgitate everything out... haiz, feeding time is still agony time for ah-ma.

Nowadays, she will only go to sleep at night with Ah-gong & Ah-ma on their bigger (compared to her cot) bed where she can toss and turn. After she falls asleep, either ah-ma or mommy will feed her before putting her back to sleep in her cot.

Her favourite toys are her rattle and the yellow-colour drumstick to her baby xylophone. The rattle is probably bec it makes a nice sound, and the yellow stick is because... well it is yellow in colour?? In addition, she also likes to grab our SCV remote control, and ah-ma's handphone very much. When she gets hold of the SCV, there goes our regular program, as Chloe is very capable of pressing the buttons and helping us to change the channels regularly.

Daddy & Mommy happened to pass by a Sesame Street carnival at Marina Square and decided to buy her some new toys. Now Chloe has an Elmo sing-along VCD, an Elmo puppet, a Sesame Street colour picture book (made of cloth, so it is washable, and she won't tear it to shreds like our newpapers), and her own Sesame Street "handphone" toy, so she doesn't have to fight with us for the SCV remote anymore... haha

As with all babies at this stage, Chloe likes to put things in her mouth to sooth her gums. Her front teeth, two upper teeth and two lower teeth can now be seen quite clearly.

As Chloe grows older, she has become more responsive to our funny gestures, smiling, swaying and shaking (sometimes quite violently) when Daddy and Mommy do a funny sound, made a funny face, or sing a funny song (with a funny action to boot). That said, she is still not that comfortable with strangers, and worse, she is still on the verge of tears everytime we go to great-grandmother's house on Sunday evenings. We have to bring her out more often to help her overcome her discomfort with strangers, or people she knows, but just dun see that often.

We did bring Chloe to my office this week to visit Daddy's office, since Daddy's colleagues had mostly not seen Chloe before, not in person at least. Other than making some sounds of displeasure when somebody wants to try to carry her, the whole thing went pretty well in fact. She took to the new environment pretty well and didn't seem like she was going to cry any moment.

Chloe goes gai gai

Taken sometime in early October, this was Chloe's first trip to MacDonalds with Daddy & Mummy. And no, the french fries were not for her. This little girl will be having milk, thank you. Or so we intended... Chloe is so facsinated with her new surroundings that she din want to bother with something as trivial as feeding...

Chloe's lunch/afternoon menu was again milk, and as usual, it was difficult to get her to drink when she is in a new environment with lots of sound, lights and action.

After months of anticipation (one of the elders advised that the babies shouldn't meet untill Zayden is 4 months old), last Sunday, on the 10 of August 2008, we finally get to see the two youngest members of the family at 太嬷(great-grandma)'s place, together at the same time.

3 Months Old!!!

Chloe is now 3 months old... Everything is going well, and she is probably about 6+ kg these days.

Chloe's holding her own bottle!! ... well almost. Mommy had to put Chloe's hands on the bottle for the longest time, and just this time, we managed to get a shot of her before she moved her hands away... haha, to hold her own bottle is still a work-in-progress, but we are getting there

Chloe does her best impersonation of Superman flying ... or should we make it Supergirl or even, Wonder Chloe? Lately, she is fond of raising her left hand in the air.... that, plus a seemingly stronger grip in her left hand left us speculating if she is a lefty like mommy.

NEW VIDEO!!! Catch Chloe smiling and laughing as Mommy entertains Chloe

Lil'Chloe had been a bit naughty this week, giving her ah-ma lotsa problems ... like refusing to drink her milk properly... Ah-ma had to reheat her milk everytime she feeded Chloe, as Chloe would drink a bit, then stop drinking, fidget a bit or start to fuss...

Ah-ma also couldn't do any cooking or for the matter any task for sustained periods, cos her precious grandaughter will wake up 15 min to half hour hour after being put to sleep, and upon waking, she would want somebody to not just keep her company, but to carry her around...

Aiya, my little princess, you are making ah-ma very busy.... hopefully next week you be a better-behaved dear ok...

How time flies... Little Chloe is now already 2 months old, halfway thru to 9 weeks now. From those early days, when just a cry from Chloe will send everyone in the family scattering around, trying to figure out what she wanted, I'd say that we have come to understand her moods and patterns better, and consequently, manage her even better.

A short recap of her 2-month progress:

- For the first month plus, she loved to stare at the ceiling. Whether she is attracted by the bright lights, or the spinning fan, or both, I dunno. But no matter where we brought her to, she will be studiously gazing at the ceiling. However in the past few weeks, as her vision improved she now liked to focus her sights more on people, meaning daddy & mummy and ah-gong & ah-ma.

- We have started to tell her stories and sing her lullabies. I'm not sure how much she understood, but it's never too early to start, and everyone loves how she will keep her focus on us, as we talk , sing and make funny sounds to her.

- For someone so young, she is already quite a fan of the TV. When we placed her at the sofa, she would inevitably turn her head to the direction of the TV, undoubtably attracted by the sound and bright colours in that direction.

- She likes to take photos more these days. When mummy takes out her camera, Chloe is more willing to oblige by looking at the camera and striking some nice poses, as seen above and below :-)

- She laughed out loud for the first time on Sat 31 May... ok lah... more like a chuckle, but daddy and ah-gong, who were fortunate to be around when it happened, were estactic.

- She don't put her hand into her mouth that often anymore compared to the first couple of weeks... probably she realised that her mittens din taste as good as milk... haha

- She has more strength and can even raise her head. With that, she can now lie on her belly, and at night these days, ah-ma would coax her to sleep by putting chloe on her body, belly down... like this

- Oh yeah, she also likes to kick and swing her hands a lot, esp when daddy holds her... daddy got hit by her swinging hands quite a lot these days...

Chloe turns 1... month old this weekend. A proud and happy occasion for every proud parent (and grandparent)

Well Saturday started with her first trip to her great-grandparent's place to celebrate her first month and prayer to the ancestors.

Of course, the main event was the baby shower, held at home... Daddy & Mommy were too busy that day with frens & relatives to take many pictures. Will put up the few pics that we did manage to take.

Our buffet lunch held downstairs - with time and space, this was a great opportunity for my relatives to gather and chit-chat.

Thanks to all our frens and relatives for showering Chloe with all these fine presents and angbaos, and most importantly, thank you for taking time out to share this joyous day with us - being a day to celebrate Chloe's 1st month, as well as to bring together relatives & frens who dun get to meet up often.

Week 2

Chloe is now 15 days old. This morning we brought her to the polyclinic for a follow-up and was happy to know that her jaundice level is down to 56.

The little dear is now feeding well, and she is now more willing to open up her eyes to look around compared to the first week when my dad had to try for days before he could capture a good shot of her with her eyes open. Some pictures taken today.

What rosy you checks you have... the result of milk rash, plus the use not-so-effective cream prescribed by the polyclinic doctor, which only made the face look even redder.

Chloe turns 1 week old. As a treat for us, she has decided to open up her lovely eyes longer for us to admire.

Well, having a new baby that attracts plenty of attention meant we have been getting lotsa visitors. Relatives had been visiting us the past 5 days to see the baby and giving advice on what to do, etc. We were a little concerned that Chloe only wanted to sleep for long stretch of hours, didn't seemed to like to drink all that much, and that her jaundice level was pretty high still, altho it had come down from the 241 on Tuesday. Gotta monitor her jaundice level over the next few days, and hope that she starts to like drinking milk more often.

After 10 long months of anticipation, the moment is finally upon us. Chloe Tan our first child was born on 25 April 2008, 1653 hrs at KKH. The little princess aparently didn't want to come out... her original due date was 23 April. Well we decided to induce her on the 24th, as she is getting pretty big already... still our little bundle of joy had to keep us waiting for one more day before coming out.
